Unfair Punishment

9/22/10
The NCAA threw the book at the University of Southern California this past summer, following a four-year investigation into a "lack of institutional control." The numerous sanctions included a two-year bowl ban, four-years of probation, a loss of 30 football scholarships over three years, and vacating all victories in which Reggie Bush played in during the 2004-2005 season (including the National Championship win over Oklahoma). The NCAA found that Bush accepted gifts (hotel stays, limousines, suits, rent-free homes) from 2 sports marketers hoping to sign him, ruling him ineligible. However, with the punishments the NCAA instilled on USC, it is not Bush himself who is feeling the effects of his selfish actions, it is the players who are at the school now. It is simply unfair that they are the ones who are suffering from what a player who was at the school 5 years ago did. Because of him, completely innocent athletes may never have the chance to play in a bowl game or the national championship. With all of this being said, the agents get by without a scratch on them, even though they are the instigators of the entire situation. Why? Because there are no regulations or controls placed on them. Now how does that make any sense?
