A Coach's Perspective

9/20/10
College football is a game of emotion - emotional players who love the game of football, but perhaps love the idea of the "golden path" to the NFL even better. This is where the corruption by shady agents comes into play. The 21st century has seen a rise of greed for money, fame, and power. When we are young, our minds are driven by the idea that money and material goods is the road to all happiness. Oklahoma head coach, Bob Stoops, says the problem with agents is the worst it has ever been in his 12 years coaching. There has been an alarming increase in the number of agents and financial advisers trying to contact college players at earlier and earlier ages. Stoops has said: "The only way to really start having a chance to clean it up would be for the NCAA to allow players to come forth and say, 'These guys and these guys and these guys are doing this, this and this.'" The NCAA rules are set up to punish only the athletes, compelling the agents to feel as though they can bribe the players in any way, shape, or form because they don't have to worry about the possibility of getting caught and being reprimanded.

  1. Lauren!
I just got home from a unsuccessful football game myself!
I agree with your opinion on this topic, i even see high schools such as Catholic Central being able to recruit students, giving them a better chance of success for the future and their chances of success with their sports. I think it is crazy the way teens are put under pressure for simply trying to be a good athlete.
