Putting ethics and emotions aside, there is a legitimate argument that can be made about this topic using logic. First off, the entire athlete-agent relationship is a just a simple business deal, with complications built around it. There is a logical argument that can be made about equality - that punishment should be equal across the board. Just as the athletes need to be controlled and monitored, so should these agents. Just as the takers are governed by rules, so should the givers. If the players are given punishment, so should the instigators. There are many logical comparisons that can be made here. At an SEC media day this year, Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, pointed out: "The agents that do this – and I hate to say this, but how are they any better than a pimp?" There is also the fact that athletes from smaller, more under-the-radar schools have an easier time getting away with this simply because nobody really cares. However, players from more high-profile schools in the FBS are caught on a significantly higher basis. Equal treatment fuels the argument here, as there is bias present throughout the entire debate.
